No one has anywhere to live because no one can stand to let their single family home stay the same price or go down in value when the new apartment building gets built. Meanwhile it’s prohibitively expensive to buy a decent house for anyone making less than 250,000 per year in CA
My family in Santa Monica live in high density residential areas and complain about lack of service workers near them. We have to tell them that they need affordable housing to keep the service workers and lower paid public workers near them (ie teachers, police & fire rescue) or they risk losing services.
I dont feel bad for the old people who zoned themselves into multimillion property evaluations.
It’s hard to feel sorry for people dealing with the implications of how they vote.
I would agree, except that how people vote has little impact on the policies we see
@@Turnsnap THANK YOU. Finally someone with a brain
Sound like a trumpanzee
Are you saying you’re against affordable housing because it’s a policy by the democrats lol?
@@VirusZero0140 what does Trump have to do with it? He isn’t my “chosen one”. I don’t follow anyone, I have the balls to think for myself without acting like a sheep. The problem with people like you is that you can’t. You let somebody else pressure you because you are scared to stand up for yourself, just like the other idiots in California.
Oh no you have to build on an empty parking lot and your community gets affordable housing paid for by the state or the federal government.
Oh no! Removing zoning restrictions?!?! What are we ever going to do when people can build whatever they want on the property that THEY OWN?
@@fightingblind the state would enact its own zoning laws if it removes a local agency’s ordinances. There is no vacuum of policy in this.
You do not own land in the US. You have land rights and a deed because of eminent domain. You own the buildings
Zoning laws are in place, so companies don’t build homes and hospitals next to noisy and polluting factories or waste dumps.
@@SoFarSoBookok so establish a minimum radius for non industrial stuff. Or pollution requirements (we already have those afaik). Zoning laws just drive up the cost of housing by limiting what land can be used for housing.
@@octonautcapn4366 I guess this IS Comifornia. I’d be surprised if they don’t already have zoning laws on top of zoning laws on top of zoning laws…
I’m from santa monica. Absolutely take empty parking lots and convert them into housing! Bergamont art station should stay though
And those “affordable housing” projects will be $575,000 for a 1-2 bedroom apartment, that no low income individual or family can afford
575k is “affordable” in Socal, especially Santa Monica. Unfortunately
Dude people need a place to live . Figure it out .
How is this man acting like turning giant blacktop parking lots into affordable housing is a bad thing???
Where will the rich park? Have you no heart?!
🤦🏼🤦🏼GAVIN 🤡🤦🏼🤦🏼
Cool fix the zoning laws build housing ontop of store fronts, convert empty parking lots . I hate newsom but part of the whole we need to make places affordable for long time residents is building places for them
And by affordable they mean 3000 dollars for one studio apartment
I want to live in Santa Monica and 9,000 units would make that possible.
Removing zoning restrictions and using empty land no one uses like parking lots for affordable housing sounds like a great thing.
The idea is that all the nice and rich areas do not want to build new housing. So in California, affordable housing has been concentrated in areas with lower income because the people there don’t go to public meetings, and whatever development people want to build gets passed without any objection.
Remove height restrictions and allow more occupancy per sq meter
Honestly way to go California
Everyone state should be following suit
Remove the zoning laws and build on the parking lots!
